"Astrophoto" mode has been introduced for the first time in Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphones, and users can take advantage of it through the "Expert RAW" application, which allows them to adjust focus, white balance, and exposure time to capture professional astronomical photos of the night sky and celestial bodies. This feature has been added in the One UI 5.1 user interface for Galaxy S23 smartphones, with direct access to the "Expert RAW" application from the camera app.

  • To activate the astrophotography mode on Samsung Galaxy S22 and S23 smartphones, users need to download the Samsung Expert RAW app from the Galaxy Store and use the triple-camera mount.
  • After installation, users can start using the astrophotography mode and capture stunning astronomical images at night.

How to activate the astrophotography mode on a Samsung Galaxy phone:

  • Open the camera app.
  • Swipe between camera modes until you reach the "More" option, then tap on it.
  • Tap on the "Expert RAW" option, and you will be automatically redirected to the Galaxy Store to download the Expert RAW app if you haven't downloaded it before.
  • After downloading the app on your Samsung phone, whether it's an S22 or S23, open the app and tap on the settings icon located on the top left corner. Then, enable the special photo options.

How to use the astrophotography mode on Samsung Galaxy phones:

To capture stunning astronomical photos using your phone, it requires mounting it on a tripod to avoid motion, and then opening the Expert RAW app and following these steps:
  • Click on the Astrophoto icon located in the top right corner.
  • A pop-up window will appear to set up the Astrophoto shooting mode, including increasing the exposure time in the Duration option to gather more light and get better pictures of stars in the sky.
  • Next, click the Show button next to the Sky guide option to display the names of stars and star clusters in the sky while taking the picture.

  • Press the shutter button when you're ready to take the photo.
  • Do not move the phone until it finishes capturing the sky, or else you will end up with a blurry image.

After capturing your photo, you can click on the thumbnail image that appears at the bottom of the screen to preview it, and then use Adobe Lightroom software to edit it.
