Tips for using LinkedIn professionally for fresh graduates

LinkedIn is one of the most important platforms for job searching and networking with professionals in your field of study or work. You can use it to search for a job after graduating from college or university, as it contains various tools that you can use to showcase your work experience and skills and increase your chances of being seen by employers.

To find the right job, it is important to know how to use this platform correctly, and the following tips will help you do so:

1- Complete Your Profile:

Employers may overlook your profile if important information is missing. Therefore, avoid leaving any sections blank and try to fill in all the available fields in your profile. Add your skills, foreign languages you know, and certifications you have obtained. Write a professional summary about yourself and your skills so that employers can better understand you.

2- Add a professional photo to your profile:

Having an official profile picture in your personal file can increase your chances of communication with potential employers. If you're hesitant to include your photo for any reason, it's important to know that according to LinkedIn, profiles with photos have more visibility than those without.

When choosing a profile picture, avoid using cartoon images, party photos, or animal pictures. If you're looking for work in a field that heavily relies on social media or marketing, choose one picture for your different platforms. This can help employers recognize you and make you appear more professional.

3- Including job-specific keywords:

The keywords you want to include in your LinkedIn profile depend on the type of job you are looking for. Therefore, consider the skills and qualities that employers are looking for and add them to your profile.

Look at job postings for the positions you are interested in and make a list of the required skills in those postings. If you possess those skills, include them in your profile. As you begin adding skills, LinkedIn will suggest other skills related to the keywords you entered in the search box to help you find the skills you may have but forgot to add. After completing your list of skills, review everything you have added to remove duplicate keywords.

4-Add your work experience:

You can include your current and previous job with a brief description of the position you hold, and you can add more or fewer details than what is added to your resume.

If you have received a promotion within an organization, you should specify each position you hold with the dates of each promotion so that employers can know your level of progress. As a new graduate, you may not have much work experience, but you can include training courses and volunteer experiences as including volunteer experience is a positive addition to your profile as it displays something personal and unique about you. You can also include part-time and unpaid training periods and internal training you have received.

If you have organizations that support or participate in, you can mention that to help potential employers better understand your personality and interests.

5- Ask someone else to review your completed profile:

After completing and reviewing your personal profile, ask other people to review it again and provide feedback. They may find some linguistic or grammatical errors, and they may have questions about the things you added, which will help you clarify some of the things you added before presenting your profile to potential employers.
